Purim
Purim commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people from Haman’s plot to annihilate them in ancient Persia, celebrated with reading the Megillah (Book of Esther), wearing costumes, giving gifts of food, and enjoying festive meals and merriment.
- Celebrated on the 14th of Adar, which usually is in March.
- Reading the Megillah (The story of Esther) in Synagogue.
- Wearing costumes and masks.
- Giving gifts of food (Mishloach Manot) and charity to the poor (Matanot La'evyonim).
- Enjoying festive meals and parties, usually with wine, meat, and traditional foods.
